Alphington Community Food Hub receives support from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation

Sustain is honoured and privileged to announce that we are the recipients of an Innovation Grant from the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation, to establish a multi-stakeholder, multi-functional community food hub in partnership with Melbourne Farmers Markets.

This is a truly exciting project which we believe will serve as a testing ground of learning, experimentation and sharing in the coming months and years. Our vision is that this initiative will drive the rapid expansion of a multi-functional, diverse and locally-owned and controlled community food hub sector in Victoria and nationally. In the process we believe this food hub sector will, as it has overseas, return greater value to our local producers, generate dozens of local food business opportunities, create hundreds of jobs and expand access to healthy food for all.

The Alphington Food Hub operations will commence by the middle of 2018 following an intensive phase of planning and preparation. Read the media release below, and for more information contact Nick Rose, Executive Director: nick@sustainaustralia.org
